The Activa® DBS System
The Activa DBS System uses Medtronic's superior DBS technology.

The Activa System includes three components, which are implanted completely inside the body:

Neurostimulator – A pacemaker-like device that is the power source for the system. It contains a small battery and computer chip programmed to send electrical pulses to control PD symptoms.
DBS™ Lead – Insulated wire with four electrodes that are implanted in the brain.
Extension – An insulated wire placed under the scalp that connects to the lead and runs behind the ear, down the neck, and into the chest below the collarbone where it connects to the neurostimulator.
You also will be given:

Neurostimulator control magnet – A magnet that turns your Activa System on or off when held over the system; or
Access Therapy Controller – A handheld electronic device that allows you to turn your Activa System on or off through radio frequency.

The O-arm™ Imaging System
The mobile O-arm™ Imaging System, developed and manufactured by Breakaway Imaging, LLC and exclusively distributed by Medtronic, is a multi-dimensional surgical imaging platform that is optimized for use in spine and orthopaedic surgery.

By combining the best features of a traditional c-arm with an intra-operative 3D scanner, the O-arm™ system produces the high-resolution imaging needed to achieve minimally invasive procedures and consistently improve patient outcomes. Its features include:

Patented telescoping gantry that enables lateral patient access
“O” shaped gantry allows for 2-D fluoroscopy and 3-D imaging
Robotic positioning with automatic return to preset positions allows for faster imaging, easy patient access, reduced radiation exposure and reduced imaging time
Digital flat panel detector provides superior image quality and a very large field of view
Seamless navigation interface featuring automatic registration and image transfer.

Triple Modality for Precision and Ease-of-Use
The O-arm™ system operates in three modes to accommodate a variety of procedures:

2D Fluoroscopy - Provides larger, higher resolution imaging and image displays than the conventional c-arm, as well as larger anatomical views than conventional image viewers. Robotics allow for easier positioning AP to Lateral and using wag.
M2D - Multi-plane 2D - Robotics enable the surgeon to program five views into memory, including a “Park” position. The “Park” position allows the system to stay in the surgical field while maintaining unobstructed access.
3D Multiplanar Reconstruction (MPR) Imaging - In the 3D mode, images are created in the operative position. In approximately 30 seconds the O-arm™ system completes a 3D spin taking almost 400 images and then reconstructs and projects this data on the 30-inch flat panel monitor. This mode allows surgeons to obtain a post-op 3D scan prior to completing the procedure. .
Precision and Convenience
The O-arm™ system provides a convenient and cost effective solution through:

Excellent Image Quality - Superb images and large field of views are a result of the digital flat panel detector. Real-time high quality images allow for easier decision-making and improved patient outcomes.
Time & Dose Reduction - Robotically controlled programmable re-positioning results in faster imaging and reduced dose to the surgeon and staff.
Sterility & Safety Improvements - Improved sterility over conventional C-arms because the O-arm™ System does not travel through the sterile field. An easy-to-use, one-time custom drape also improves sterility. The O-arm ™ system provides a safer OR atmosphere with all moving parts enclosed in the gantry.

AXIEM™ Electromagnetic Tracking Technology
StealthStation® AXIEM™, the propriety electromagnetic (EM) tracking technology developed by Medtronic Navigation, is the industry’s first clinically available EM tracking solution to use unique single-coil engineering. It works by generating an electromagnetic field around the patient’s target anatomy that can be tracked to triangulate the positioning of instruments and patient-tracking devices.

The benefits of AXIEM™ technology include:

EM tracking devices and instruments are small, non-invasive and easier to attach for faster OR throughput15
AXIEM™ can be seamlessly integrated into your OR workflow with a streamlined, portable localizer that can hang from the OR table or Mayo Stand
AXIEM™ single-coil technology allows flexible instruments (i.e. stylets, shunts, catheters) to be tracked at the tip, enabling the use of navigation in procedures like never before
The system is not impaired by a camera’s line of sight to the tracked instruments - instruments and staff can come in and out of the EM field with no disruption to the Navigation information
Patented algorithms constantly monitor the electromagnetic field, including metal disturbance, to ensure navigation precision14
AXIEM™ technology is expandable to multiple surgical specialty applications, including cranial neurosurgery, spine surgery and orthopaedics.

StealthStation® TREON® plus
The award-winning StealthStation® TREON® plus was meticulously designed for accuracy, usability and speed. It was created specifically for surgeons and their staff and fits seamlessly into any OR. In addition to its flexible two-piece design, it provides a wide variety of user-friendly features and functions - and, it's expandable and upgradeable to ensure it always offers you the most advanced technology available.

Based on technology originally developed in conjunction with Dr. Richard Bucholz at St. Louis University in St. Louis, Mo., the StealthStation(R) system allows physicians to plan their procedures before the actual surgery and then to visually "track" the operation in real time.
Viewing the built-in monitor, surgeons not only "see" the patient's anatomy but their surgical instruments as well.

IMRIS Neuro
IMRIS Neuro enables both intra-operative and diagnostic services with the same MRI. IMRIS Neuro can be configured in both 2 and 3 room designs allowing the flexibility to create a customized MR solution best suited to your patient-care requirements.

IMRIS Neuro allows multiple imaging and analysis opportunities during the course of surgery.
The suite of imaging tools can deliver the latest available images, data and clarity to the surgical team when it counts - allowing for more informed decisions and ultimately, more effective treatments.
These configurations use the 1.5 Tesla Siemens Espree magnet, and come complete with the Siemens software suite. The MRI systems are serviced by Siemens, and the magnet moving system is serviced by IMRIS.

All imaging rooms must have complete RF shielding, which IMRIS provides as part of all our systems. All connections (e.g. HVAC, medical gas lines, sprinklers, electrical, telephone & data, etc) entering or leaving the rooms must pass through an appropriate RF filter/waveguide.

IMRIS stresses the importance of involving the RF-shield vendor as early as possible in the design process to ensure maximum efficiency.
